The ZZ Plant is the definition of a survivor — glossy, sculptural, and virtually indestructible. Native to the dry forests of East Africa, it’s built to handle neglect, low light, and the general chaos of everyday life. Its thick rhizomes (those potato-like roots hiding under the soil) store water, meaning it can go weeks without a drink and still stay lush and shiny. If you want a plant that thrives with minimal effort, this is the one.
Plant Care
Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light but tolerates low light exceptionally well.
Watering: Let the soil dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering is the only real way to kill it.
Temperature: Happy between 15–26°C. Keep away from cold draughts.
Humidity: Standard home humidity is perfect — no misting needed.
Feed: A light feed every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer is plenty.

Surviving
Light: Indirect
I'm pretty flexible, actually. Generally I'd rather be in a bright spot, with plenty of indirect light. But if all you've got is a moderately shady corner, that's no biggie I'll happily adapt with perhaps a bit less watering. Just keep me out of any harsh, direct sun and we'll get on just fine.
Watering: Regular
I'm a Thirsty Kirsty! I could drink most other plants under the table and still throw shapes on the dancefloor. Don't let me dry out or there'll be trouble, but remember, the art of drinking is slow & steady. Too much, too quick isn't good for any of us. Keep my soil moist but not soggy.
