A little green, a little purple, and a whole lot of personality.

The Senecio Purple Flush is a gorgeous trailing succulent with plump, bead-like leaves that develop beautiful purple tones, particularly when grown in plenty of bright light. Its delicate stems spill over the edges of the pot, creating a colourful cascade that's perfect for hanging planters, shelves and anywhere that needs a little leafy drama.

And the best bit? It's surprisingly low-maintenance. With its water-storing leaves and easy-going nature, this one is happy to be left alone between drinks. A hanging plant that doesn't demand your constant attention? We're listening.

Plant Care

  • Light: Loves bright light and can enjoy some gentle direct morning or evening sunshine. Good light helps encourage those lovely purple tones.
  • Watering: Allow the compost to dry out thoroughly between waterings. Its succulent leaves store water, so less is definitely more.
  • Temperature: Happiest around 18–26°C. Protect from frost, cold draughts and temperatures below 10°C.
  • Humidity: Normal household humidity is perfect. No misting or extra humidity required.
  • Feed: Feed sparingly with a diluted cactus and succulent fertiliser during spring and summer.

Good To Know

Bright, Indirect Light

Loves being in the spotlight. Thrives on attention. Just not direct sunlight, that’s where it draws the line. We’re glowing, not grilling.

Not for Pets or Kids

Beautiful but with a dark side. The leaves and/or other parts of this plant can be toxic. Keep away from pets, children and adults who never grew up.

Not a Diva

Nothing special on this leafy star's rider. Happy just to get on with life and do it's thing, like an old friend just hangin' out.

How not to kill your Senecio ‘Purple Flush’ (String of Tears)

We've created a personalised Grow Guide for your Senecio ‘Purple Flush’ (String of Tears). Just follow this easy guide and you & your new leafy mate will be loving life together!

Light: Direct

I love the light! A big ol' dose of bright, sunlight each day is my idea of heaven. I'm even up for some direct rays, just as long as it's not a scorcher. That said, I'm pretty adaptable. If light or dappled shade is all you've got, I won't complain.

Watering: Light

When it comes to drinking,I'm a Lizzie Lightweight, the cheapest date in town! Just a small one for me, please, and don't be rushing to top me up either. I won't thank you for it. Allow my soil to dry out almost completely between waterings, and we'll get on just fine.

Humidity: Normal

Atmospherics? I'm really not that bothered, actually. Just your everyday household humidity is fine. No extra attention required, thanks, so don't be comin' at me with that spritzer!

Memento Top Tip 💡

Don't judge this one by the calendar — check the leaves instead. When they're lovely and plump, there's usually no rush to water. If they start looking slightly less full and the compost is completely dry, it's probably time for a drink.

And remember, more light generally means more purple. Just introduce stronger sunshine gradually to avoid scorching.

Diva Rating 🌿

3 / 10 — VIBES

Low-maintenance, drought-tolerant and happy doing its own thing. Give it plenty of light, don't drown it, and let those purple trails grow.
