Long Leaf Fig (Ficus binnendijkii ‘Amstel King’) 🌿👑
The Long Leaf Fig ‘Amstel King’ is an elegant houseplant with long, glossy leaves that arch gently downwards. Its flowing foliage gives it a softer silhouette than broader-leaved figs, while new leaves can emerge with a beautiful bronze tint.
A cultivated variety of a Southeast Asian fig, ‘Amstel King’ brings height and leafy character to living spaces, offices and bright corners. Give it a well-lit position and a steady care routine, and it can develop into a striking indoor tree.
Plant Care
Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Some gentle morning or evening sunshine is suitable, but avoid sudden exposure to harsh direct sun.
Watering: Allow the top few centimetres of compost to dry before watering thoroughly. Let excess water drain away and avoid leaving the pot standing in water. Reduce watering in winter.
Temperature: Enjoys warm, stable room temperatures. Protect from cold draughts, radiators and sudden temperature changes.
Humidity: Appreciates moderate humidity. Keep away from drying heat sources, and wipe the leaves occasionally with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust.
Feed: Feed monthly during spring and summer with a houseplant fertiliser suitable for leafy plants, following the product’s instructions. Pause feeding when growth slows.
Good to Know
Growth: Can become a substantial indoor tree over time. Overly long shoots can be trimmed to maintain its shape.
Settling In: Some leaf drop can occur after a change of location or conditions. Give it a stable position and check watering before making further changes.
Blooming: Grown for its foliage rather than flowers. Like other figs, its tiny flowers develop inside the fig structure.
Toxicity: The milky sap can irritate skin. Keep away from pets and children who may chew plants, and wear gloves when pruning.
Also Known As: Amstel King Fig, Narrow Leaf Fig, Long Leaf Fig.
Origin: A cultivated variety of a fig native to Southeast Asia.
