Oxalis triangularis (False / Purple Shamrock) 🍀💜
A striking bulb-grown plant with deep purple, shamrock-shaped leaves that fold up at night like a living sundial. From June to August it produces delicate pink or white flowers, making it as charming as it is unusual.

Plant Care

  • Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light but can tolerate some direct sun.
  • Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist during the growing season. Allow only the top layer to dry slightly before watering again.
  • Temperature: Prefers 15–25°C. Protect from frost.
  • Humidity: Happy in normal household humidity.
  • Feed: Apply a balanced fertiliser every 2–3 weeks during the growing season.

Good to Know

  • Growth: Grown from bulbs. Easy to revive if it has a “fussy” spell or goes dormant.
  • Foliage: Leaves are edible, tangy, and known to close up at night.
  • Flowers: Blooms in summer (June–August).
  • Toxicity: While edible in small amounts, excessive consumption can be harmful due to oxalic acid — best enjoyed as an ornamental.
  • Also Known As: Purple Shamrock, False Shamrock.
  • Origin: Native to South America.
