Carmona Bonsai (Fukien Tea Tree) 🌿

Elegant, refined, and full of character, the Carmona Bonsai is a miniature tree with maximum personality. Native to China and Southeast Asia, this bonsai forms small glossy leaves, tiny white flowers, and a beautifully textured trunk, making it one of the most classic indoor bonsai styles.

It’s a little more particular than some of our easier plants, but give it stable light, consistent watering, and a calm corner of your home and it’ll reward you with year-round beauty. Perfect for desks, sideboards, or anyone who appreciates a bit of living art.

Plant Care

Light: Loves bright, indirect light. Avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch the leaves.
Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist, never bone dry, never waterlogged. Water when the top layer feels slightly dry.
Temperature: Prefers 18–24°C and dislikes sudden temperature drops. Keep away from radiators or draughty windows.
Humidity: Appreciates moderate humidity. Mist occasionally, especially in winter.
Feed: A bonsai-specific fertiliser every 4 weeks during spring and summer helps keep it strong and healthy.

Good to Know

Flowering: Can produce tiny white flowers throughout the year when happy.
Toxicity: Mildly toxic if ingested, keep out of reach of pets and children.
Also Known As: Fukien Tea Tree Bonsai.
Origin: China, Japan, and Southeast Asia.

Good To Know

Not for Pets or Kids

Beautiful but with a dark side. The leaves and/or other parts of this plant can be toxic. Keep away from pets, children and adults who never grew up.

A Little Bit Diva

This botanical buddy won't just up and die on you if it isn't happy. It'll let you know it needs a bit of fuss and attention, which it will, periodically. Check the care details.

How not to kill your Bonsai Carmona

We've created a personalised Grow Guide for your Bonsai Carmona. Just follow this easy guide and you & your new leafy mate will be loving life together!

Light: Indirect

Choose a bright position with filtered or indirect light. Protect from harsh direct summer sun. Only use lower light where the individual plant’s care profile says it is tolerated.

Humidity: Normal

Atmospherics? I'm really not that bothered, actually. Just your everyday household humidity is fine. No extra attention required, thanks, so don't be comin' at me with that spritzer!

Watering: Regular

Check regularly and keep the root compost lightly moist for plants that need steady moisture. Drain excess water and avoid waterlogging. Follow the individual plant’s care profile.

Top tips from our Agony Plant.

Consistency is key — steady light, steady moisture, and a steady home. Don’t move it around too often, and avoid letting it dry out completely. Trim lightly to maintain its shape, and keep the leaves dust-free to help it photosynthesise at its best.

Memento Top Tip

If your Carmona drops leaves suddenly, it’s usually reacting to a change — light, temperature, or watering. Give it a stable routine again and it’ll bounce back. Bonsai don’t love fuss, but they do love consistency.
