Mistletoe Cactus (Rhipsalis) 🌿💚
An unusual forest cactus with slender, cylindrical green stems that branch into a beautifully textured display. As it grows, its stems can arch and spill over the edge of the pot, making it lovely for shelves and hanging planters.

Naturally growing on trees for support, this tropical cactus enjoys filtered light and more regular moisture than its desert relatives.

Plant Care

  • Light: Enjoys bright, indirect light. Some gentle morning sunshine is fine, but avoid harsh midday sun.

  • Watering: Allow the surface of the compost to dry slightly before watering. Let excess water drain away. Reduce watering in winter, keeping the compost just lightly moist.

  • Temperature: Happy in a warm room. Protect from frost and cold draughts.

  • Humidity: Appreciates humid conditions, particularly in rooms with dry air.

  • Feed: Apply a diluted cactus fertiliser monthly during spring and summer, following the product’s instructions.

Good to Know

  • Growth: A branching, epiphytic cactus — meaning it naturally grows on other plants for support.

  • Stems: Its slender green stems give it a soft, sculptural appearance.

  • Flowers: Can produce small, pale flowers followed by berry-like fruits.

  • Also Known As: Rhipsalis teres, Rhipsalis teres f. heteroclada. Mistletoe Cactus is a common name shared by several Rhipsalis species.

  • Origin: Southern and south-eastern Brazil.

Size: 17cm x 25cm

Good To Know

Bright, Indirect Light

Loves being in the spotlight. Thrives on attention. Just not direct sunlight, that’s where it draws the line. We’re glowing, not grilling.

Not a Diva

Nothing special on this leafy star's rider. Happy just to get on with life and do it's thing, like an old friend just hangin' out.

How not to kill your Hanging Mistletoe Cactus (Rhipsalis)

We've created a personalised Grow Guide for your Hanging Mistletoe Cactus (Rhipsalis). Just follow this easy guide and you & your new leafy mate will be loving life together!

Light: Indirect

Choose a bright position with filtered or indirect light. Protect from harsh direct summer sun. Only use lower light where the individual plant’s care profile says it is tolerated.

Watering: Moderate

Check the compost before watering. Water when the upper layer begins to dry, then let excess water drain away. Adjust to the plant, pot, light and season.

Humidity: High

Keep away from drying radiators. Where this plant benefits from higher humidity, use a humidifier or suitable room conditions with ventilation. Routine misting is not a substitute for lasting humidity.

Memento Top Tip

This is a forest cactus: filtered light and regular moisture suit it better than a hot, bone-dry windowsill.
