Which Christmas Wreath Are You?

BEHIND THE STEMS.

Which Christmas Wreath Are You?

Wild, traditional, colourful or completely over the top? Here’s how to find the Christmas wreath that belongs on your door.

There are Christmas wreaths. And then there are Christmas wreaths.

We’ve never been particularly interested in making twenty identical circles of spruce with a bow stuck on the bottom. Where’s the fun in that?

At Memento, our Christmas wreaths are made by hand using fresh seasonal foliage, natural textures and all the good stuff - think spruce, eucalyptus, pine cones, dried fruits, berries, seed heads, twigs and whatever else catches our florists’ eye that season.

Some are wild. Some are a little more traditional. Some are packed with colour. And some are gloriously OTT.

So, which one is yours?

Traditional Christmas Wreath Fruits and Foliage

First things first: where’s it going?

The front door is the obvious answer - and for good reason.

A big fresh wreath against a painted door is basically Christmas announcing its arrival before anyone has even made it through the hall.

Fresh wreaths are happiest outdoors, where the cooler temperatures help keep the foliage looking its best throughout the festive season. A sheltered front door or exterior wall is ideal.

But they’re not just for doors.

Hang one above a fireplace, on an internal wall or use one as part of your Christmas table styling. Just remember that central heating and roaring fires will cause fresh foliage to dry more quickly indoors.

If it’s going inside, embrace the change. Plenty of the ingredients we use - eucalyptus, dried fruit, seed heads and cones - continue to look brilliant as they dry.

Just how wild are we going?

Big Wild Natural Christmas Door Wreath

This is where things get interesting.

If your Christmas decorating involves traditional greens, natural textures and a slightly more restrained approach, something filled with spruce, eucalyptus, pine cones and dried citrus will sit beautifully.

Prefer things a little less polite?

Go bigger.

Trailing foliage. Twisted branches. Hydrangea. Berries. Unexpected colour. Loads of texture. A ribbon with absolutely no intention of behaving itself.

Our wreaths aren't designed around making everything perfectly symmetrical. We like movement, texture and those slightly unruly bits that make each one feel different. Perfect circles are overrated anyway.

What colour is your Christmas?

Rebel Without a Claus Bold Vibrant Berry Christmas Wreath
Red and green will forever be Christmas classics, but nobody said you have to stop there.

Deep burgundy and berry tones feel rich and traditional. Dried oranges and cinnamon bring warmth. Soft eucalyptus and muted natural materials keep things calmer.

Pinks, brighter foliage and unexpected details take the whole thing somewhere else entirely.

Our Rebel without a Claus strikes the balance between traditional, fun and a bit alternative - we do love a pop of colour!

Or, for a more traditional look but still with pops of colour using dried fruits, hydrangea, berries and ferns - The Forager (below) is 100% up your street!

Think about the door or wall behind it too.

Dark doors can carry brighter ingredients beautifully. Pale or neutral backgrounds give deeper greens and berries loads of contrast. And if your door already has plenty going on? Sometimes keeping the ingredients more natural lets all that texture do the work.

The important bit is that it feels like your Christmas rather than somebody else's Pinterest board.

When should you put your wreath up?

Whenever you fancy, frankly.

For a fresh wreath outdoors, late November or early December is a good time to get started. Kept outside in cool conditions and cared for properly, a well-made fresh wreath should see you through the festive season.

If you're hanging yours indoors, we'd usually suggest waiting a little longer because warmer temperatures will naturally speed up the drying process.

And yes, we know some of you will have the decorations up while the Halloween sweets are still in the cupboard.

We see you.

Don't forget the rest of the house

A wreath can absolutely do all the heavy lifting on its own, but you can also carry the same ingredients through the rest of your Christmas decorating.

A few branches of eucalyptus in a vase. Pine and foliage across a mantelpiece. Dried oranges tucked into a garland. Bud vases scattered along the Christmas table.

A Mantlepiece masterpiece perhaps?

It doesn't all need to match perfectly.

In fact, we'd rather it didn't.

Repeating a few colours, textures or ingredients is enough to make everything feel connected without turning your house into a department-store display.

Made by hand. Never off the shelf.

That’s probably the most important bit.

Every Memento wreath is handmade by our florists in Belfast using seasonal materials, which means natural variation isn't just expected - it's the point.

Your wreath won't be an exact photocopy of the one in the photograph. Ingredients can change depending on what's looking particularly good that week, and every florist will bring a little of their own hand to the finished design.

Same style. Same feel. Completely individual. Because nobody needs to discover their neighbour has turned up to Christmas wearing the same wreath.

Now the only question is - which wreath are you?
