Not exactly a “starter plant” - but my god is she worth it.
The Alocasia Frydek Variegata is one of the most sought-after plants in the rare plant world, loved for its dramatic velvet leaves splashed with striking white variegation. Every leaf is completely unique, with bold contrast, sculptural shape, and that proper “stop scrolling” energy.
This is the kind of plant that turns a shelf into a showcase.
Plant Care
- Light: Bright, indirect light is essential to maintain strong variegation. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, especially on white sections.
- Watering: Keep soil lightly moist but never soggy. Allow the top layer to dry slightly between waterings.
- Temperature: Loves warmth - ideally 18–27°C. Keep away from cold draughts.
- Humidity: High humidity is a must. Thrives best above 60% humidity.
- Feed: Use a diluted houseplant fertiliser every 2–4 weeks during spring and summer.

Stunning? Absolutely. Dramatic? Also absolutely. Not impossible… but definitely not for the “I forgot I owned a plant” crowd.
